The immune system and HPV

Improve your health with a lot of different colors

Our immune system, better to say microbiome, is very important in recognizing and destroying the HPV virus (human papillomavirus) and abnormal cells. This system consists of groups of cells that talk to each other through substances such as hormones, cytokines and growth factors. This communication allows our body to defend itself against viruses, bacteria, fungi, abnormal cells, cancer cells and toxins.

The immune system is vulnerable and must be kept in balance. Attackers such as viruses, bacteria, toxins, stress, poor diet, smoking and air pollution can weaken the immune system. Some people have naturally weaker immune systems due to genetic mutations and need extra support to strengthen their immune system. Sometimes the immune system also reacts incorrectly and attacks its own tissues, such as in thyroid disorders.

Importance of T cells

In viral infections, such as HPV, our T cells are especially important. These cells must be able to communicate well with each other through signaling substances. Natural cellular defenses are especially important against HPV. Many people have strong defenses against the virus' harmful proteins, but not everyone. Women with severe pre-stages of cervical cancer often have weakened defenses.

Lymphocytes and their role

Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cells formed in the bone marrow. They play an important role in our immune system. One part becomes T lymphocytes (T cells) and one part becomes B lymphocytes (B cells). T-lymphocytes mainly fight pathogens that hide in the cells, such as HPV.

T cells and virus control

Cellular viral defense targets infected cells. There are different types of T cells:

  • Cytotoxic T cells (NK cells) kill foreign or abnormal cells.

  • T-helper cells release signaling substances to regulate various processes.

  • T-inhibitor cells keep an immune response from getting out of control.

  • T-memory cells remember previous infections and respond quickly to a new infection.

B cells and antibodies

B-lymphocytes make antibodies that react against foreign invaders. These antibodies bind to viruses and signal macrophages (special white blood cells) to destroy the invaders. B-memory cells remember previously fought viruses and respond quickly to a new infection.

Strengthening resistance to HPV

To strengthen resistance to HPV, we focus on:

  • Increasing the activity of T lymphocytes (NK cells and dendritic cells)

  • Positive support of genetic factors

  • Risk factors such as diet, exercise, smoking and lifestyle

  • Use of supplements and vitamins

Supplements and vitamins (more info@studiorosenberg.nl)

Some recommended supplements and vitamins include:

  • AHCC: A plant-based extract that strengthens T cells. It is recommended at a dose of 3 grams per day for at least 6 months .

AHCC (standardized shiitake extract) is a combination of traditional Eastern medicine and modern science. It is a plant-based alpha-glucan-rich extract with strong immunological effects. Alpha-glucans are biologically active polysaccharides from natural sources of proven medical significance.

  • Vitamin C: Increases the maturation of T cells. Take (by arrangement) 1000 mg twice daily .

  • Folic acid: Important for women to prevent abnormalities. Use active folate and consult with a doctor about the right dose . Eat especially green (leafy) vegetables are rich in it (endive, lettuce, spinach, Brussels sprouts and broccoli). You can also find it in legumes (broad and green beans, peas, lentils) and some fruits e.g. strawberries, citrus fruits, kiwis and melon.

  • DIM complex: Helps balance hormones and may inhibit the progression of abnormalities. Dim is found in flowery vegetables; cauliflower, brocoli, radishes.

  • EGCG: A substance from green tea with anti-inflammatory properties. Not everyone can take this safely, so consult with a doctor or drink Matcha.

  • Vitamin E and A: These vitamins may help reduce abnormalities, but more research is needed. Eat carrots and nuts.

  • Vitamin D: Plays a regulatory role in our immune system and may reduce inflammatory processes .

Microbiome therapy.

This therapy uses the same messenger substances as the immune system to inform the cells in our body and strengthen the immune response.

Hopefully this explanation will help to better understand how our immune system works and how we can strengthen it to better fight HPV.

Ms. JATW Rosenberg treats genital warts (which can sometimes be caused by HPV) and also does lifestyle counseling (microbiome diet) and supplements. The above information comes from several scientific studies but more substances are known from other studies. Working on your microbiome, i.e. your overall health and immune system is of course always a good idea. Read more about the Microbiome therapy.
